This event is dedicated to an outstanding Marine - Lance Corporal Noah Pier. LCpl Pier was killed in the line of duty on Feb. 16th, 2010 while supporting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan. LCpl Pier was a machine gunner assigned to Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii-based 1st Battalion, 3rd Marines. His unit deployed to Afghanistan in November, joining Regimental Combat Team 7. Date: March 13th, 2010 Are you ready for: One Very Cold Day Four-mile On Road/Off Road Run Dozens of screaming Marine Drill Instructors?!? We’d promise you mental torment
Time: Check-in Begins at 0700*
Lake Pointe Hall
Place: Colonel Francis Beatty Park
4330 Weddington Rd, Matthews NC
A Two-person Team
Three hundred-yard Maneuver Under Fire Drill
Then you’ve come to the right place!
and muscles so sore you’ll puke . . .
But we don’t like to sugarcoat things!
WHAT TO EXPECT: two person teams should have a uniform appearance. We will give awards the top three team outfits. Each team member must wear a backpack that weighs 10% of his/her body weight. Failure to fill your backpack with the appropriate weight will result in us filling it for you with a heavier-than-10%-of-your-bodyweight rock. You won't be happy with what we put in your backpack so do your part and fill up your on backpack on your own.
WHAT YOU'LL DO: Teams will then complete a modified version of the Marine Corps' Combat Physical Fitness Test which will include running for a while, carrying loaded ammo cans, doing a buddy carry, maybe some duck walks, a simulated hand grenade throw, low crawls, push-ups and a lot of screaming Marines to help you along the way. Here's a web site with more info on the Marine Combat Fitness Test.
SAFETY: This challenge is not your typical running event but we will do all that we can to make the course as safe as possible. We can't do anything about what nature may have to offer as obstacles to include but not limited to: tree roots, trees, holes, animals, small rocks, ducks, etc. It is ultimately your responsiblity to be safe on this course and the event - you'll be signing a waiver to state that you understand this. If at anytime you feel that you can't complete this event, drop out. Your safety, health, well-being are far to important and should outweigh your desire to compete. Having said all that - hurry up and get registered!
Make sure you're selecting the correct competitive category. Please carefully review descriptions of each one on the Buddy Challenge web site under Event Details - Rules before you register.
Note: When proceeding through the registration process, the "Ticket Buyer" is the person whose credit card or PayPal information will be used to pay for the registration. "Ticket #1" (and "Ticket #2," if the "Ticket Buyer" is purchasing two tickets in the same transaction) is the name of the Marine Buddy Challenge participant being registered. All questions posed in the balance of the registration process apply to the participant, not the Ticket Buyer (unless they are one in the same)
Registrations in the Youth and Corporate categories -- where it is most likely "Buyer" and "Ticket" are not one-in-the-same person -- are the categories most prone to confusion on this point. If you are hopelessly challenged, please contact Aaron Harper at aaronharper@bac.edu for clarification.
On behalf of the Marine Buddy Challenge planning committee, we look forward to seeing you out there bright and early on March 13th!! Semper Fi!!

Marine Corps Coordinating Council of Greater Charlotte
The Marine Corps Coordinating Council of Greater Charlotte, a 501(c )(3) nonprofit, is comprised of individuals with an interest in supporting Marines and their families, and promoting the Marine Corps ethos, in general. To that end, they sponsor the Semper Fi Challenge Series consisting of the winter Marine Buddy Challenge, the spring Marine Ultimate Team Challenge and the summer Marine Mud Challenge. In more cerebral endeavors, the Council also periodically sponsors "Lunch with the General" events, featuring both active and retired Marine Corps general officers speaking on topics ranging from current Marine Corps issues to everyday leadership recommendations. During 2008, these luncheons were be held at Maggiano's Little Italy, South Park Mall, Charlotte NC; they are open to the public. Not only do the luncheons help get the Marine Corps' story out, but they provide invaluable opportunities for Marines and former Marines to gather, network, and swap "war stories," in an acknowledgement of the axiom, "Once a Marine, Always a Marine."
Membership in the Marine Corps Coordinating Council of Greater Charlotte is open to all Marines, former Marines, retired Marines, and any card-carrying member of their immediate families. Associate membership is available for any member of the public wishing to help support Council endeavors. More information is available at www.carolinamarines.org
